BRYANT PORTILLO, AMFT

Bryant is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT 162653) who approaches therapy with empathy, curiosity, and a deep respect for each client’s individual experience. He believes meaningful therapeutic work begins with creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment where clients can feel heard, understood, and comfortable exploring the parts of themselves that may be difficult to express elsewhere. His approach is best described as collaborative, recognizing that therapy is not about telling clients how to live their lives, but working with them as they develop greater self-understanding, healthier relationships, and a stronger connection to who they are.

Bryant has worked with children, adolescents, and adults, and draws from an integrative therapeutic approach that includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), play therapy, and psychodynamic perspectives. He has a particular interest in  Depth and Jungian psychology and the ways unconscious patterns, early experiences, relationships, identity, and unresolved emotional conflicts can influence a person’s present-day life. Alongside focusing on symptom reduction, Bryant is interested in helping clients understand the deeper meaning behind recurring patterns, emotional struggles, and relationship difficulties while also developing practical tools for creating meaningful change.

His clinical experience includes providing play therapy to preschool-aged children as well as utilizing CBT with adolescents and adults experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral difficulties, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. Bryant has worked with clients in both English- and Spanish-speaking environments and values approaching therapy with cultural sensitivity, openness, and respect for the unique backgrounds and lived experiences each person brings into the therapeutic relationship. Bryant has a specialized interest in men’s mental health and in helping men develop healthier relationships with their emotions, identities, relationships, and sense of self. He is particularly interested in exploring issues surrounding masculinity, vulnerability, relationships, purpose, self-esteem, loneliness, and emotional connection. He also has a strong interest in couples therapy, where he seeks to help partners better understand one another, identify recurring relational patterns, improve communication, navigate conflict, and build deeper emotional intimacy.

Bryant earned his Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with Marriage and Family Therapy option from California State University, Dominguez Hills. His therapeutic philosophy is grounded in empathy, kindness, understanding, and genuine human connection. He believes therapy should be a place where clients do not feel judged or reduced to a diagnosis, but instead feel supported in examining their experiences with honesty and compassion. Ultimately, he hopes to help clients better understand themselves, recognize patterns that may no longer serve them, and move toward lives and relationships that feel more authentic, meaningful, and fulfilling.
