MATEO LEONARDO, AMFT
Mateo is a bilingual Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #130167) who is committed to helping others heal and find wellbeing. Having migrated from Spain at a young age, he understands the importance of culture when treating individuals. He brings a unique cultural sensitivity to his work and is eager to help people from all cultural backgrounds. Mateo uses a cognitive behavioral approach (CBT) to help individuals reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, and integrates mindfulness to bring unconscious maladaptive patters to the surface.
Mateo completed his clinical training at Cancer Support Community South Bay, where he treated cancer patients and their caretakers individually and in group settings. He specializes in working with chronic illness, trauma, and bereavement, and understands the complexity of relationships between caretakers and their loved ones during a crisis. Mateo’s objective is to work with individuals, couples, and families to help them minimize suffering and optimize their personal and interpersonal wellbeing. He understands individuals are challenged to change themselves when they are no longer able to change an unfavorable situation. His purpose is to guide individuals through that challenging adaptive process.
Mateo holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Cal State Long Beach and a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles.
